The benefit of this event remains female cancer patients and in 2015 local female business owners took ownership of this event resulting in the most succesful event in its’ history.

The 7th Annual Jetty Coquina Jam has been slated for Sunday, July 26th at Taylor Avenue beach in Beach Haven, NJ! This will be the 5th year Jetty has partnered with David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation which directs 100% of the proceeds back to female cancer patients in our community. This annual event has provided $30,757.90 in assistance to females in our community affected by a cancer diagnosis!
The central focus of Jetty Coquina Jam is to raise funds for DDBCF through celebrating the growth of female surfing. Females of all ages can partake in the contest (download entry form below) — Please note that surfers should be of the intermediate skill level and strong swimmers We also run a youth surf clinic after the contest in conjunction with Farias Surf & Sport, Jetty Team Riders and plenty of volunteers. ($20 donation / on beach sign up)

We want to take a minute to thank the Amazing Kids & Parents from our youth sub-group of David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation called “Generation Dream.”
The picture to the left was taken at our first meeting on June 25th 2014 with 23 kids. We currently have 74 kids registered to be a part of this amazing youth movement within David’s Dream & Believe. The children are committed to generating a ripple effect of Kindness, Love & Hope for NJ families living with a cancer diagnosis.
In one year, the kids have been responsible for several fundraising projects including a Lakewood Blueclaws Game, Thundering Surf Funday, Kids 4 Change, Project Dream & Holiday Cornbread Sale with our friends from Shore Fire Grille. Some of the kids have created their own fundraisers: Domenick Crisalli asked his mom to do a wear your jeans to work day and he also sold some of his own clothes online to raise money for DDBCF. Hadley Magaziner raised funds for DDBCF with a couple of lemonade stands during the summer and Cuade Deely created our very stylish Generation Dream Socks which can be found on our website by clicking the Shop Tab.
All of the kids & parents volunteered at a variety of David’s Dream & Believe events throughout 2014 including: 6th Annual Jetty Coquina Jam, Night at the Lakewood Blueclaws, Rocktoberfest, TGI Friday’s Regional Competition & Survival of the Mills.
Most importantly, the kids from Generation Dream planned and hosted a Holiday Party at SOMC for the Oncology Patients & their families. This was the culmination of an incredible inaugural year for Generation Dream and we could not be prouder of each every member of this group. A Huge thank you to all the parents of these amazing kids. We know without your commitment to the Foundation in driving the kids to meetings, events and fundraisers – none of this would be possible.
Lastly, we want to recognize one of our newest Director’s Kim Manzella who currently serves as our youth Director and is the creator of Generation Dream. Kim leads Generation Dream with her Huge Heart and is a wonderful example to the kids and to all of us of what it means to lead a “Pay it Forward” lifestyle! A special thanks to Melanie Magaziner, Kristin Panzone Jillian Elsasser and Dani Corso for their help with Generation Dream projects throughout 2014!

This annual, growing event has provided over $24,000 in assistance for local breast cancer patients and their families! We welcome females of all ages to partake in the contest (download entry form below) — Please note that surfers should be of the intermediate skill level and strong swimmers (able to ride the line and complete maneuvers on their own). We also run a youth clinic after the contest (afternoon time TBD) in conjunction with Farias Surf & Sport and Jetty Team Riders Jamie Dewitt & Selena Moberly ($20 donation / on beach sign up). David’s Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation wants to recognize Jeremy DeFilippis for his dedication, commitment and service on our Board of Directors for the past 3 years. Jeremy is stepping down as a director but is committed to supporting the Foundation and specifically our patients, which is exactly what he has done since day one. Jeremy has successfully served as Vice President, Treasurer and Director during his 3 years on the board. The picture below is the only one we have with Jeremy and me in the same picture. We are sitting with some very special friends and it captures a much deeper meaning. This was taken after the 2011 Jetty Coquina Jam, which was the first year Jeremy, the Jetty staff and Coquina Committee decided to make their all-female surf contest a benefit for DDBCF and specifically our local breast cancer patients. The Foundation was on life support leading up to that event, until we received the infusion of positive vibes from Jeremy, the entire Jetty team and everybody involved in the 2011 Jetty Coquina Jam! We have never looked back since that event and the positive vibes and pay it forward spirit have supported 20 families in 2011, 50 in 2012 and 134 last year! We will continue to work closely with Jeremy and partner with Jetty and the Jetty Rock Foundation to better serve our community. David’s Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation (DD&BCF) would like to use this semi-annual update to inform you of a major change to our mission statement. Also, we have news from our 2 major sponsors JETTY and Mud City Crab House. Please see the list of upcoming events and the 6 attachments. DD&BCF would like to welcome all of our newest supporters to the Foundation and thank the ones that have been with us from the beginning because we would not be able to help our patients/families in need without all of YOU!
First and foremost, it was unanimously agreed upon and approved at the annual Board of Director’s meeting that we revise our mission statement as follows: David’s Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that raises funds to provide financial assistance to families affected by a cancer diagnosis to help them offset the costs of physician visits, treatments, medications, lodging and transportation. We have removed the research funding portion of our past mission statement. It is our belief that DD&BCF is best suited for helping those patients/families burdened by the financial strains of a cancer diagnosis. This belief is driven from the heart of our founder, echoed by its directors and confirmed by our growing army of supporters/sponsors! We remind you of a quote from our founder that he read a while back, “Kindness is the Shadow of God in Man”! Once again, these examples of GIVING are only made possible by the large shadows being cast by our supporters! The 3 examples below are just a small glimpse of our renewed mission towards patients/families.
GIVING:
Mother diagnosed for a 2nd time with breast cancer. Shortly after diagnosis, her house burned to the ground. DD&BCF helped to pay for living in a local hotel for her, her husband and their 5 year old son.
Mother of 5 battling breast cancer while husband (ambulance driver) takes off work to attend to her and the kids. Family was served an attorney eviction letter on a Friday. DD&BCF showed up on Saturday paying 3 months past due rent and one month forward.
16 year old girl battling osteosarcoma and in need of a partial lungectomy needed to travel from PA to MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, TX by car with mother and 2 other siblings. A cancer retreat, a lower cost lodging option they had chosen, was 2 hours from the hospital. DD&BCF secured lodging 1.5 miles from Hospital with free shuttles to the hospital and free breakfasts for the entire trip.
