My name is Susan Buzby. I reside in Little Egg Harbor, NJ. I grew up in Manahawkin, and graduated from Southern Regional High School. After graduation in 1995, I studied education at Rowan University. I have three daughters, Kaitlyn, Amelia, and Autumn, and a wonderful, supportive husband, named Brent.

In April of 2015, I was diagnosed with colon cancer, while I was 12 weeks pregnant with Autumn. It was a shock and turned our world upside down. In May I underwent surgery to remove my tumor and sigmoid colon. I was 15 weeks pregnant at this time. We were very hopeful that surgery would be all I needed, but three days after surgery, my pathology came back and revealed my lymph nodes had been infected, and I was staged at 3C. I was going to need chemotherapy. We were once again in shock and not sure of our options. After discussing options and outcomes with my awesome team of doctors, I was assured that if we started chemo in June it would be safe for both the baby and me.

I started therapy and completed eight treatments while pregnant, and three treatments after delivery. On October first I was induced at 37 weeks, and gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Autumn Hope Buzby. She continues to do well today, at five months old.

During this journey I was supported, loved, and helped by so many family members, friends, and the community. David and his organization not only helped with financial burdens but also with emotional support and friendship.

I am forever grateful to him. My hope is that I can provide cancer patients and families the same love, support and friendship that he showed me at my most difficult times.
